Greetings Friends and Neighbors,

I am honored to be representing you here in Juneau as we seek to find solutions to our state’s challenges. Much has happened so far in the first 64 days of the 32nd Legislature.

So far, I have sponsored three bills that have been referred to committees:

HB 53 – Recognizes military families with incoming students transferring to Alaska and allows them to enroll their children into the local schools and classes prior to arrival. It has been approved in the Military and Veteran Affairs Committee and was referred on to the House Education Committee.

HB 108 – Allows for concurrent vocational education and on-the-job trade experience programs for students enrolled in public secondary schools. The intent is to allow for trade training that actually leads to industry standard certification and workforce readiness for your children. The bill will go before the House Education Committee soon. It is important that you send your letters and emails of support to Rep.Ken.McCarty@akleg.gov.

HB 142 – Changes PFD Eligibility. Finding revenue sources and reducing financial liabilities has been an emphasis from my office. Everyone wants a PFD. The question is, what funds are available and how can everyone get their fair slice of the pie. HB 142 redefines eligibility of Alaska residents qualifying for the PFD by no longer recognizing military individuals who have relocated out-of-state, but have continued to claim a PFD. In 2019 the amount paid out to non-residing individuals was over 9 million dollars. I support our military but I believe that our residing residents of Alaska have priority to the dividend as active stockholders in this Great State we call Alaska.

HJR12 – Last week the House passed HJR12, a resolution defending Alaska’s energy rights. The resolution passed with strong bipartisan support showing our commitment to fight for Alaskan jobs. I believe that Alaska will continue to be a global leader for responsible resource development, just as we have been for the past several years. Alaska is ready, now more than ever, to prove that we are open for business.

At the end of February, I co-hosted a town hall meeting at the Lion’s Club with Senator Reinbold and Representative Merrick. It was great to see so many community members come out and share their concerns with us. I was also able to meet with several constituents that morning at Jitters and was welcomed home in true Eagle River fashion with a 5.3 earthquake.

I am available to meet with constituents virtually and telephonically. If you would like to meet with me, please contact my office to schedule a chat. You can also keep up with me by visiting:

Kind Regards,

Representative Ken McCarty
